HurRy talks about his impressions from the WCG, the treatment to the Israeli team, his gaming gear and more!
Have fun!
A quick introduction:
HurRy’s name is Eldan Michael Kohav. He’s 19 years old and he represented Israel (and eSrael Gaming) at the Unreal Tournament 2004 Championship over the WCG.
Ok, let’s get it started!
What atmosphere is at the WCG event? How does it feel to take part at such a big event?
At first, it’s very stressful! A lot of “celebes”, but after the opening ceremony, you start to realize they’re just like you. Ordinary people… the thing that makes them different is that they’re known all over the (gaming) world.
As an Israeli, how were you treated?
Everything was cool… People were wondering how it is to live here. They even told me I’m brave for living in this country. They suggested me to move to another location (also because of pings and gaming :))
Does the level abroad is really better than here?
The thing is that the communities are a lot bigger than Israel’s. The pings make it a bit hard to play with players outside of Israel, but it doesn’t really matter. The American for example, can play within their own country because they have such a big community. The thing that makes them better is that they’re more experienced. They train at LANs frequently and gain more and more experience by playing with people not over the internet, but over the LANs.
You happy with your achievements at the WCG?
Overall, yes. I lost only because of bad luck and because of risks I took and some foolish mistakes. The opposite side was very lucky. Due to the close scores, they mean nothing. Everything was very close until the very end. At that point I knew that if I won’t take risks I won’t make it to the next round. The gape grew large because of the risks I took…
Do you have any tips towards the players who might participate in the tournaments to come?
Players must watch and learn the game style of other players, who participated in the tournaments. My style has also changed, because of the fact I saw more experienced players at the WCG and learned a lot. Watching demos over the internet and playing online tournaments won’t help you a lot. To be the best, you must play on LAN.
What about your equipment? Do you think it matters a lot for a gamer?
Yes. The equipment I was given helped me a lot. The new Steelpad S&S is a lot better than my old Steelpad 4S due to the fact I don’t have to look after it so much. When the 4S gets dirty I loses all of its benefits. I don’t have this problem with the S&S. The CordHolder also efficient though it doesn’t really matter which one you use (AMD, Steelpad or whatever). The Gaming Glove is also comfortable and contributes to the smooth feeling.
What about the gaming in Israel? It has a future?
Basically, Israeli clans must get more sponsors to provide financial support. We must keep trying to reach higher peaks. To succeed we should send more and more players and teams abroad, there they’ll gain more experience and win!
Tell me about the place you were hosted… how was it like?
It was amazing. The place was very cheerful. It was a lot of fun staying there with all of those players. Some of them bought a bath full of icy beer… it was awesome. The hotel as very luxuriant and beautiful. When you step out of the hotel, you really feel like you’re in Manhattan, with all of those skyscrapers around you… really nice.
What was your impression of the other players?
I was highly impressed. They have more experience and their game style is more aggressive than what you see in Israel yet they are more relaxed during the games. As I said, the main difference between me and them is the experience.
Let’s talk about the American girls for a sec. Are they better than the Israeli ones?
There were no girls that I saw participating at the tournaments. Those that I did were advertising all kinds of gaming gear and games. They were very good looking :)
This is where I finish my interview with Eldan. Had a lot of fun writing it (and interviewing Eldan), hope you enjoyed reading it.
Till next time, see you!
