About a month ago I did an interview with Alexander ”triforc3” Hausmanis but I never had the time, due to school, to correct it and publish it but now it's done and I have also translated it into Swedish (since I'm from Sweden). The interview brings up Alexander as person, EYEBALLERS and a new project that he is starting. This is my first interview and I hope you enjoy it, Have Fun!
GeminiRius: Could you please introduce yourself and tell us what you exactly do for your team?
My name is Alexander Hausmanis and I’m a 25 years old man who lives in Jönköping Sweden. I’m the owner and “Swiss army knife” of EYE. Well I work with everything that’s involved in having a clan, management, PR, planning trips, making my players feel at home and organising.
GeminiRius: How did you get into gaming and why are you still in the gaming scene?
Well in heart I was born a gamer. I started to play NES 8bit when I was a little child, then I got an amiga500 for my 10years birthday present, I played a lot of moonstone and here I am today.
Why I’m still here…well I’m deeply involved in EYE and got a strong moral feeling to it so i can’t just quit plus it is fun.
GeminiRius: What does an average day look like for you as head of a professional gaming team?
If I have stuff on my "worklist" regarding EYE that I need to do, I always do that first. When that is covered I work on my little side project which will soon be official, after that I hope to have some spare time left to go boarding or play some street basket with my friends and I also play World of Warcraft.
GeminiRius: Wow a side project, sounds cool does it have anything to with gaming? And if it does could you give as a peek?
Yes it has, it is something that is both good for our team and the city I live in.
GeminiRius: Then my guess is that it’s a LAN, but you don't have to say anything. Will you announce it before or after summer?
It’s not a LAN, I can’t say more then that.
GeminiRius: Can you tell us a little bit about how EYEBALLERS started? And what the EYEBALLERS organisation is today?
EYEBALLERS started as a Quake2 CTF team by Roller and moon back in 1998. They quickly became one of the best Quake2 CTF teams in the world. When Quake3 was released EYE moved over to it and kept on winning. Today our Quake3 team is still very successful, even though Quake3 is considered a "has been game”. Today our team still thinks it’s fun to play. Then not to forget is our beloved painkiller player sakh and Counter-Strike team that we are really proud of. EYE is a team that have had a lot to go through being one of the least sponsored teams but as you have seen for example at the CPL summer, which we funded from our own pockets, EYE never gives up.
GeminiRius: What do you think of the gaming scene now, two years ago and two years from now?
Well I’m still in shock to how big it has become, I mean nowadays you can sit in a restaurant and hear people on the other table discussing World of Warcraft or Counter-Strike. And not to forget is the big money involved today, the money is both good and bad for the scene though. Some seem too eager to earn money and forget to listen to the gamers (no one mentioned, no one forgotten). Two years from now I hope that it has continued to grow and has become bigger and that the gamers have more power to which games are competitive or not.
GeminiRius: Recently a split was drawn in the Counter-Strike scene, which side are you guys on (Counter-Strike Source or 1.6)? What do you think will happen this year to the scene because of the split?
Well I’m on both sides, I think it’s time to move into something new but I also think we shouldn’t do it until it’s playable and fair as a competitive game which Counter-Strike Source is far from it today.
GeminiRius: I guess you guys aren't aiming for CPL this summer? Tell us about which events EYEBALLERS are attending the next couple of months.
Well we will see about that, our painkiller player will attend CPL summer for sure and our Counter-Strike team is still thinking about it but if it’s between CPL (with CS:S) and ESWC (with CS:1.6) we will go with ESWC for sure (if we qualify).
GeminiRius: Moving on to you…What have you done, as you see it, for the gaming scene?
Well I’m a modest person so I won’t go ahead and say that I have made anything big, I just hope my players are satisfied with my work, that is my goal. Plain and simple…
GeminiRius: What does your family and friends think about being involved in gaming?
Well I’m a hybrid; I’m a very active person so I’m involved in many different things. But regarding the gaming my friends and family are supportive, some girlfriends have been a little "jealous" at the computer sometimes but hey I’m not a "toffel" (Swedish word that means that I’m not P***Y whipped) :P
GeminiRius: Two months ago Vilden left EYEBALLERS for NiP, how does it feel to lose one of the best players in the world to your greatest rival?
Well that team has "stolen" players from us before and of course it’s annoying that they got this EYE player (just kidding folks). Na, to be serious it’s sad to lose Vilden he is a really fun person but it’s also fun in a way to get to try different players. I have really big faith in the "new" team.
GeminiRius: When and where are the new team attending their first official tournament? How good do you think the new team is going to be, top5 in the World?
I hope we will be ready before RIXHACK but if not they will be ready for the ESWC qualifiers or any upcoming tournament that is after RIXHACK. As I said before I have really strong faith in the new team and I think we will keep on battling on the top5 ranking.
GeminiRius: I won't ask you to tell us anything about your new team because I know that those things are confidential (or something like that) so when will you guys announce your two last players in the Counter-Strike team?
Really soon :)
GeminiRius: A couple of weeks ago you guys announced Corepad as your main sponsor. What will they provide EYEBALLERS with and what will EYEBALLERS do for them?
I hate to see me saying this a lot but I really can’t talk about that right now. We love Corepad and we have a nice future together.
GeminiRius: What is the status with your current sponsors, have they helped EYEBALLERS get bigger and better? Do they provide with money, salary maybe?
Corepad, Datorbutiken.com, Rixtelecom and Razer has been a REALLY BIG help, without them we would have been dead by now and not to forget our other sponsors as well. But as any other team we are always looking for more interesting partners so we get stronger and more professional as a team and organisation.
GeminiRius: Can you give the readers any type of advice to become as successful as you are today? Could you give us a little peek of how you do it yourself?
It takes time so have patience and don’t forget the friendship involved. According to me it is better to play in a mediocre team, that you like, than a good team that you aren’t friends with. Well how I did it myself…I was never an ELITE gamer, I just played for fun together with my friends and had the brain for the managing part. When I stopped playing a lot I kept on working for the team since I already had education for it. Although I play a lot of World of Warcraft today, Alliances BRING IT ON for the horde! ^^
GeminiRius: Can you give us your thoughts about why and when a gamer should try to become a manager?
Well if you like the managing aspect of the gaming world you should try it although I have a big tip to everyone out there…The age is pretty important for being a representative for a serious organisation, I get TONS of messages from 12-17 people that wants to become managers. I don’t want to put anyone down, but a big company in most cases don’t take it serious if you are too young in such a high position.
GeminiRius: What are the five major steps a head-manager of a team should take to make his or her team more professional?
Remember why big companies sponsors and to get good marketing out from it. I can’t think of more major steps but basically be the glue that makes everything hold together. Plan everything well and do what you are supposed to do and in time. :P
GeminiRius: How do you think you are going to evolve this year through gaming?
Basically I have my own project that will take some time but also to make it better for the whole EYE organisation which probably will make me even busier. I will also gain more business experience so I guess that is my thing for this year, gain more experience.
GeminiRius: For how long are you going to stay in gaming? Any goals you haven’t achieved yet?
I’m going to stay in gaming for as long as I’m needed in EYE and for as long as I enjoy it. Yes, there are many goals I haven’t reached yet, that pretty much involves making EYE bigger, better, stronger, more professional and with more side branches to make it even more attractive for sponsors. And to make the players feel really satisfied being an EYEBALLER.
GeminiRius: NiP-Gaming came up with a funny question that I like to ask you: What are you going to do this summer?
Hehe, Well I want to catch a lot of sun and a lot of boarding or wakeboard/surfing. Spend a lot of time on the beach with my friends, drinking some beers, chilling with the girls, play some street basket…well just to be out as much as I can. Work will keep me inside so that’s what I’ll do on my spare time.
Now to the 5 speed questions, have fun:)
Quake or Painkiller? Quake because that’s where I’m from.
Hamburger or pizza? Hamburger because I’m trying to stay away from unhealthy food although hamburger isn’t that healthy either is it… :P
Coffee or Cola? Cola because I’m not that “coffee-drinking-person”.
Playing from home or LAN? LAN because it’s funnier to be able to scream "OWNED YOU LITTLE WORTHLESS MAGGOT" in someone’s ear instead of typing it.
Poker or Counter-Strike? CS because I really suck at poker, I’m to wild, I’m like sitting folding with unsafe cards and when I’ve done that a couple of times I go crazy and just bet with shitty cards.
You seem like a REALLY nice guy and a hell of an organisation owner too, I wish you best of luck and thank you for this interview. Hope we hear from you soon about that project of yours, looking forward to it. Any last shoutouts you would like to make?
Thanks mate, good questions by the way…Well the usual shoutouts: One love to our sponsors Rixtelecom, Datorbutiken.com, Razer and Corepad, my family and friends and of course my EYEBALLERS brothers and sisters ;) And oh to all the single women out there SEE YOU THIS SUMMER, haha.
